A sweeping curved staircase – the centrepiece of the home's main floor – carpeted in a soft grey broadloom against a continuous curved wood handrail and classic spindles.
Curved staircases are template work: every winder tread has its own geometry, wider at one end than the other, and the carpet has to be cut so the pile direction stays consistent through the entire turn. Rushed curves show it immediately; this one was fitted tread by tread until the grey reads as one unbroken sweep from the hardwood below to the floor above.
The soft tone keeps the focus on the staircase's shape, and the dense pile keeps the family's main route upstairs quiet.
