What every job includes.
Of old carpet as part of the job, not a separate line item.
Before new carpet goes down over it.
How the room is actually used drives the recommendation.
For both removal and installation, scheduled together.
Years of foot traffic compress carpet fibres in a way that doesn't bounce back.
Once staining or odour has worked into the pad and subfloor, cleaning only goes so far.
Multiple failing seams are usually past the point where a patch makes sense.
Carpet Experts Toronto provides professional carpet replacement throughout Toronto and the surrounding GTA.
Replacement is really two jobs done as one: removal of the old carpet, pad and tackless strip, followed by a fresh installation. We check the subfloor once the old carpet is out – often the first real look at its condition in years – and catch anything, from uneven spots to moisture, before new carpet goes down over it. New tackless strip and pad are installed, and the new carpet is stretched and finished the same way as any new install.
We'll talk through carpet type, pile style – plush, frieze, Berber, loop or cut pile – and pad options based on the room's use. A busy hallway and a guest bedroom don't need the same carpet grade, and matching the product to the room is part of getting a replacement that lasts.
Rippling with decent pile usually means a re-stretch, not a replacement. A single burn, stain or snag can often be patched from a remnant. But matting that shampooing no longer lifts, seams separating in more than one place, odour that returns after cleaning, or pad that has gone flat underfoot – those are replacement territory, and patching around them wastes money. When we quote, we tell you which category your carpet is actually in, even when the honest answer is the cheaper job.
If your carpet is fifteen or twenty years old, the replacement market looks different than you remember. Stain resistance is now built into many fibres rather than sprayed on. Polyester (PET) has closed much of the durability gap with nylon at a lower price. Textures like frieze hide footprints in rooms where old plush showed every step. Pile heights and colour ranges have moved on too, which is why we bring current samples to the measure instead of asking you to choose from memory.
Replacing room by room over a few years spreads the cost but multiplies the visits and can leave you chasing a discontinued product to match. Replacing a whole floor at once costs less per room, keeps colour and pile consistent through doorways, and gets all the disruption over in one or two days. Both are legitimate choices – we quote them separately when asked so you can see the difference and decide with numbers in hand.
The crew arrives, protects the entry path, and starts the tear-out. Old carpet, pad and tired tackless strip leave first; the subfloor gets inspected, screwed down where it squeaks, and cleaned. New tackless and pad go down before lunch on a typical room. The carpet is then rough-cut, placed, seamed, power-stretched wall to wall, trimmed and tucked at the edges. Doorway transitions go in last, followed by a walkthrough with you before the vacuum passes and the crew leaves.
A mid-grade carpet on the right pad, professionally stretched, is a ten-to-fifteen-year floor in a normal household – longer in low-traffic rooms, somewhat less in a home with large dogs or a stair run that takes constant traffic. The variables you control are grade, pad and vacuuming habits; the variable we control is the quality of the install. Fresh carpet is one of the few improvements that photographs as well as it feels underfoot, and listings agents ask for it constantly for a reason: worn bedroom carpet reads as neglect even in an otherwise well-kept house. For sale preparation we lean toward neutral, mid-grade product – buyers reward clean and current far more than premium fibre they did not choose. For rental turnovers we quote durable, honestly priced carpet that stands up to tenancy after tenancy, and we can schedule between move-out and move-in dates when the window is tight. Either way the old carpet leaves with us and the room is photo-ready when the crew packs up.
Let us know what's in the room when you request your quote so we can plan for it.
It's removed and disposed of as part of a standard replacement job.
Single-room replacement is common – you don't need to replace every room at once.
