A curved staircase with black iron balusters and a flared bottom run, fitted with cream carpet tread by tread. The painted risers stay exposed, so each piece had to be cut precisely to its own step – on a curved staircase no two treads are quite the same shape, and the flared steps at the base widen with every stair.
Each tread piece was secured individually and wrapped clean at the nosing, giving the hardwood-floored space a soft landing on every step without covering the staircase's lines.
The result keeps the contrast the homeowner wanted: dark rail, white risers, warm carpet exactly where feet actually land.
